We have had a great couple of months at Pat’s Place as Peru has started to return back to some normalcy. Holly, Tim Koenning, Joey McWhorter, and I just returned from a 10-day trip where we got to spend some time with the kids, attend the wedding of Jasson and Rachel Caceres, and then travel to Machu Picchu in preparations for our team trip in June. We had a great time traveling through Peru like tourists, seeing sights that Holly and I have never seen before. We also found a great location for our Youth Retreat in October. Please note that we are looking for sponsors of our Youth retreat. We have spent a lot of time over the years caring for all of our families, but we have never taken our teenagers out of San Juan and spent a week of dedicated time just focusing on them. Our goal is to continue the work that Laura instills in them on the Love of God, Love of Themselves, and Love for their Family. With that being said, Pastor Keith Torbert, Pastor Robert and Jennifer Walker, Laura, Pamela, and I will be taking the kids on a week long retreat. The estimated cost for the week is $4,000 dollars. School Update:
The government had the kids alternating which days that they had to go to school and which ones they did home school. Each week was actually different by school. As you can imagine that was complicated because we have kids at different schools, and they didn’t know which days that the kids would be home and which days they would attend in-person classes until the Friday before. Each school did different days as well so we had a mix of kids at home and kids in school every day of the week. As of this last week, Peru decided that they will open schools five days a week, which means that all of the kids will be back to in-person classes all week. The computer lab has been a great tool and continues to be used daily for homework, classes, college courses, and learning English. During our trip last week, I was able to spend some time with Hannah as he was in the computer lab learning English. With all of the Americans that come through Pat’s Place, these kids have a greater opportunity to become more fluent in English than most.
